An Indian government migration centre is recruiting truck drivers for Hungary, Rtl.hu reports citing the Indian Economic Times. The recruitment is being organised by the government of the state of Karnataka in India, and no education is required to apply, only a good command of English and a truck driver's licence obtained before September 2009.
Those selected for the job will be provided with a visa and a plane ticket by the state, and will then undergo six months of further training, during which they will receive a stipend of around 250,000 forints (675 euros) from the state. They can then start working in Hungary for a salary of around 400-600 thousand forints (1080-1600 euros) – much less than previously mentioned.
The article in the Indian business daily confirms earlier reports that other than men, woman are also being recruited as truck drivers. As we reported in March, Baton Transport Hungary, a subsidiary of the Danish company Baton Transport, is looking for female truck drivers in India, who could potentially make about €1,800, or around 680,000 forints. According to the company, a Hungarian truck driver receives the same wage for the same job.
Waberer's CEO told Telex in an interview that the recruitment process has been going on for two years. So far, all the Indian employees working for the company are male and are among the most reliable. Among truck drivers from outside Europe, only drivers from the Philippines outnumber Indians.
