In a video posted on his Facebook page, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said,
"I see a bright victory, perhaps the greatest comeback in the history of Western politics. A huge victory. They threatened him with jail, stripped him of his assets, tried to kill him, the entire media world in America turned against him and yet he has won."
Orbán said this is a great encouragement to all who believe in perseverance and determination, and it brings hope for peace to the world. Orbán believes there is now a great chance that by the end of the year, pro-peace forces will be in the majority in the Western world. "There is a huge possibility of this happening now, and if it happens,
the economy could be boosted and US-Hungarian relations could return to the former golden age. President Donald Trump and I have many plans that we will be able to implement in the coming year," Orbán said.
The Hungarian Prime Minister is following the results of the US presidential election on TV in Kyrgyzstan, where he will be attending a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States later today. Viktor Orbán does not like other countries interfering in Hungary's domestic politics, but he has made no secret of his support for Donald Trump. We have previously written in detail about how their relationship has developed and deepened over the years.
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has also reacted to the results of the US presidential election on Wednesday morning Hungary time, at the point when Donald Trump had already won 246 electoral votes. On his social media page, he wrote:
“Following the decision of the American voters, we can have hope that Hungarian-American political cooperation will be back in top form, as we share similar views on peace, illegal immigration and the protection of families.”
Szijjártó also said that "politics is a matter of experience" and that Hungarian-American political relations were at their peak during Trump's first presidency. The Foreign Minister said that there is now "a better chance than ever before that the war in Ukraine" will end.
Commenting on the results of the US election, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on Wednesday morning that "it's already in the bag". The Hungarian government has repeatedly and openly backed Trump in the run-up to the election. The prime minister's adviser Balázs Orbán has also reacted to the election results, celebrating Trump's victory:
Balázs Orbán even met the popular 90s rocker and Trump fan Kid Rock in person two years ago. At the time, Kid Rock described the Hungarian abortion law as "creepy but great".
