The Orbán family's quarry has supplied construction materials for the renovation of the Budapest-Belgrade railroad, so in addition to the Hungarian Prime Minister's friend Lőrinc Mészáros, Viktor Orbán's immediate family members may also be profiting from the huge railway construction project of the state, 444.hu reports. This is according to internal documents they have seen, and the information has also been confirmed by two transportation companies involved in the project.
It was already known that Lőrinc Mészáros' companies were the main contractors working on the project. The details of the investment are secret, which is why it was not known until now that members of the Prime Minister's family could also be profiting from it.
According to the documents, more than 200,000 tonnes of railway stones were transported from the Orbán family's quarry in Gánt to the construction site between 2022 and 2023.
Some of the building materials were ordered from the Orbán quarry by V-Híd, one of Lőrinc Mészáros' companies working on the project. This company made a profit of HUF 50 billion last year, and according to one of the documents, the Chinese contractor was planning to sign a contract worth HUF 1 billion gross (a bit more than 2,5 million euros) for the delivery of gravel from Gánt.
The Hungarian state took a loan from China to finance the construction, which is the biggest ever railway development in Hungary, costing more than HUF 800 billion (2 billion euros).
The documents obtained by 444.hu do not reveal the total amount of construction material delivered from the quarry during the whole project so far, nor the amount of money the Orbán family's company received for this. Several members of the Orbán family are found among the managers of Dolomit Ltd.: Győző Orbán Sr., the Prime Minister's father, is the majority owner and managing director of the company, while Viktor Orbán's brother Győző Orbán Jr. and his son Dávid Orbán are also managing directors.
