Chinese Premier Li Qiang received Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Beijing with military honours, and the two sides held bilateral talks, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister's press chief, told MTI (the Hungarian State News Agency) on Monday.
According to Li Qiang, despite the geographical distance, the two countries are linked by a strong, long-standing friendship, and China appreciates that Hungary was the first European state to sign the Belt and Road Economic Cooperation Agreement. He also pointed out that the two countries' bilateral relations are friendly and have produced fruitful results.
Viktor Orbán also highlighted the personal friendship and fruitful cooperation, stressing that the political friendship between the two countries has deeper, cultural foundations. He also noted that it will soon be 75 years since the establishment of relations between the two countries. "We are China's good friend in Europe, and we have high hopes for further cooperation," the Hungarian Prime Minister said.
On Wednesday, the Hungarian Prime Minister will address the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing. Politico earlier reported that the Hungarian Prime Minister will be the only EU leader at the event, where Russian President Vladimir Putin will also be in attendance.
