At the 3rd European Political Community Summit in Granada, the Hungarian Prime Minister said that there was no chance for an agreement on migration between the leaders of the EU member states, MTI reports.

Viktor Orbán justified this by saying that although member states had previously decided on the regulation of migration, this had recently been changed and the package had been pushed through bypassing Hungary and Poland, which he referred to as the two countries having been “legally raped”.

The final element of the migration package was adopted by the member states on Wednesday, with Hungary and Poland voting against. This agreement was expected, and although Hungary opposed the negotiating mandate on the proposal on the migratory emergency, a qualified majority is enough, meaning that one or two governments cannot veto, and he legislation would apply to the entire European Union.

Orbán also said that Hungary does support the enlargement of the EU, for example the accession of Georgia. It is for this reason that joint government meeting between the two countries will be held in Tbilisi next week.

However, regarding Ukraine's accession, he said that a "strategic review is needed, because the EU has never before considered admitting a country at war". "We need to understand why it is good for the EU to admit Ukraine, what the consequences would be, (...) how much money we are talking about," he said. He said that Ukraine's accession poses new questions, not only on security but also on cohesion policies and agriculture, for example. With Kyiv's entry, "a whole new agriculture would be born" in the EU, he said.
