The Herendi Porcelánmanufaktúra Zrt. will again manufacture the broken trophy of Max Verstappen, the winner of the 38th Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, Hungarian Press Agency MTI reports.
Attila Simon, CEO of the company, told M4 Sport's National Sport News programme that they regret that the trophy was broken, but as he believes that Herendi plays an important role in building the national image of Hungary, they will replace the trophy. "The teams will decide who was to blame, but we will take on the happy and heavy burden and manufacture it again." The porcelain costs 40,000 euros.
Attila Simon said that all their creations are guaranteed to be replaced in perpetuity, which is why the sample collection also includes a duplicate of the Hungarian Grand Prix trophies. Production of the vase has already begun, so the original six-month production process will now be shortened and the two-time world champion of Red Bull will receive the trophy in a few weeks.
The winner's trophy was broken when McLaren's Lando Norris, who finished second, used the podium to open his champagne bottle, causing the cup to fall.
The footage shows the British driver slamming his champagne bottle against the podium to froth the champagne. But what he didn't realise was that the trophy this time was not some kind of metallic, heavy-duty prize, but Herendi porcelain. And Verstappen's trophy was knocked off its feet by the impact and shattered, the base detached. McLaren immediately apologised on Twitter for the incident.
