A World War II explosive device was found stuck in a tree on the outskirts of the village of Óbarok in Fejér county, the Hungarian Defence Forces' 1st EOD and Riverine Guards Regiment said on its Facebook page on Monday.

The explosive device probably struck a growing, then young tree during the fighting in World War II more than 80 years ago, and got lodged in it, but did not go off. Over the past eight decades, the tree completely encased the explosive device.

Bomb disposal experts at the scene determined it to be an 82 millimetre Soviet fragmentation mortar with an armed fuse. The troops of the Bomb Disposal Unit carefully removed the dangerous explosive device, and transported it to the central collection point of the Hungarian Defence Forces, where it will be destroyed, the report said.
