Our “Telexikon” video explaining the economic impact of Covid has won an “Award of excellence” at the Best of News Design Digital competition organized by the Society for News Design. The competition has been organized annually since 2002, and in the most recent one, the winners were chosen from among more than two thousand entries.

The “Award of Excellence” is, according to the jury, given to those “works which go beyond mere technical and aesthetic competence and push the boundaries of originality and creativity”. Among the other award recipients were The New York Times, The Washington Post, Axios, and Reuters.

The awarded “Telexikon” video was published at the end of 2020, and it was the first one in our series of explanation videos. In this episode, the creators (Máté Fillér, Péter Somogyi, Zsolt Hanula, Fruzsina Előd and Péter Lengyel-Szabó) looked at how the novel Coronavirus affected the world’s economy, what sets the current crisis apart, and what long-term effects the pandemic could have on the world of economy. (The video’s English version was created with the help of Zoltán Kovács.)
