Zelensky calls election of new president "another important step in Hungary’s renewal"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was among those who congratulated András Baka on being elected President of Hungary. On Tuesday evening, Zelensky wrote on X that the election of the new head of state is "another important step in Hungary’s renewal".

"We see how, step by step, the transformation of our neighbor is moving forward, and this is giving Hungarian society greater confidence. It is important that such changes also have a positive impact on the European Union, on its core values and principles, and strengthen good-neighborly relations with all countries in our region. We congratulate Hungary and its new President, András Baka, on his election. We wish him every success and stand ready to cooperate on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit", wrote the Ukrainian president.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan shared a similar message on his social media page, also congratulating András Baka on being elected. “Romania and Hungary now have a valuable opportunity to further strengthen our cooperation. I look forward to working with you, for the benefit of our citizens, to deepen our political, economic and European cooperation", he wrote.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić congratulated András Baka on behalf of the citizens of Serbia. “I am confident that we will continue to strengthen the close ties between Serbia and Hungary in the future, for the benefit of our citizens,” Vučić wrote on X.

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen wished András Baka every success in carrying out the duties entrusted to him, and added: “I look forward to working with him to deepen the close relations between our two countries and for a strong, democratic, united Europe – underpinned by a clear understanding of the rule of law and democracy and in the service of the citizens.

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini also congratulated the newly elected Hungarian head of state, and said that they look forward to welcoming him in Slovakia. “Slovakia and Hungary are connected by long-standing good neighbourly relations, a shared history, and strong people-to-people ties based on mutual respect, trust, and open dialogue. I am convinced that we will continue to develop our cooperation both bilaterally and within the Visegrad Group and the European Union, where we are united by shared priorities and the responsibility for coordinated action," Pellegrini wrote.
