By effectively neutralizing the formidable French offense, Spain won the first World Cup semifinal 2-0, and—as the Hungarian public previously learned—the country’s former prime minister was once again able to follow one of the most important matches in the world of sports at the scene.

Reddit users were the ones to discover that Viktor Orbán's reactions at the Dallas match were accidentally captured on video. Orbán is seen raising his hands to the sky in frustration, after which he returns to his distinctive match-watching pose of crossing his arms and continuing to watch the game while standing.

Starting from 3:06:59, IShowSpeed's live stream shows Orbán watching the game for a long time:

Orbán left for the United States on Monday, the day the Hungarian Parliament adopted the 17th amendment to the Fundamental Law, which Orbán’s party, Fidesz, has heavily criticized. The party which governed the country for sixteen years (for almost six of which by decree) has repeatedly expressed concern for the rule of law and democracy in Hungary, saying that the adoption of this amendment would undermine both.

They even organized a protest under the slogan “Stop the tyranny!”, where, despite his many social media posts on the subject, Viktor Orbán did not show up. This, and

the fact that he did not cancel his trip to the United States has received much criticism in Hungary, especially since his departure coincided with Fidesz’s faction leader announcing his resignation from his post.

One of Orbán’s social media posts on the day the 17th amendment to the Fundamental Law was adopted simply contained a black-and-white photo of Prime Minister Péter Magyar with “Democratic Hungary 1990-2026” written over it with a single, black heart emoji for comment.

Magyar reacted to the post by saying that “Fidesz and its president—who ‘has gone into exile in the U.S.’—let their voters down in the midst of the storm. He’s sending emojis even as he’s heading to Dallas to watch a game with a ticket worth thousands of dollars in his pocket.”

A closer inspection of the video reveals that several members of the Orbán family accompanied the president of Fidesz on his trip: his son Gáspár Orbán is wearing a red cap and his daughter, Sára Orbán, and her husband, Tamás Szokira are also visible.

It seems that the Fidesz chairman is keeping up with his tradition of watching the World Cup final in person this year as well, and it has been reported that he will also be there for the second semifinal. As far as the odds are concerned, Orbán predicted that France would win against Spain. But this was not his biggest miscalculation in terms of chances for victory this year.
