In all caps, Trump calls on Hungarians to vote for Orbán
With a photo of himself and Viktor Orbán in Washington, and parts of the text highlighted in all caps, U.S. President Donald Trump urged Hungarians to vote for the Hungarian Prime Minister in the country's upcoming elections. “Election Day is April 12, 2026. Hungary: GET OUT AND VOTE FOR VIKTOR ORBÁN. He is a true friend, fighter, and WINNER, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Hungary,” Trump posted early Wednesday morning Hungarian time on Truth Social.
The U.S. president called Orbán a strong and powerful leader who, in his opinion, “has delivered phenomenal results,” and also noted that Hungarian-American relations have risen to “new heights” since he became president.
This is the second time in a week that Trump has made a statement about the Hungarian elections; he also praised Orbán four days ago in a video message played for the audience at CPAC Hungary. In recent weeks, both the Hungarian government and Fidesz have repeatedly highlighted the importance of Hungarian-American relations in the campaign; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in an interview last week that, to the best of his knowledge, the U.S. vice president will be coming to Hungary in early April. However, the exact date of J.D. Vance’s visit remains unclear for now, and his plans could still change, since high-ranking officials may decide to keep him in Washington due to the war in Iran.
The president isn’t the only American to have weighed in on the Hungarian campaign; several American actors have also voiced their opinions. Most recently, the actor and stand-up comedian Rob Schneider posted a short video of himself filmed at the square in front of St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest, writing that he proudly supports Viktor Orbán.
Two weeks ago, actor Mark Ruffalo also shared his opinion; unlike Schneider, however, he posted about the crowd at Péter Magyar’s rally in Pécs, writing, “Yes! Free yourselves, my Hungarian brothers and sisters!” Most people probably know the Golden Globe winner Ruffalo for his portrayal of the Hulk, but he has also been nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for several of his films—including The Kids Are All Right (2010), Foxcatcher (2014), and Spotlight (2015).
