One of the world's most prestigious publishers purchases rights to Judit Polgár's autobiography
Coinciding with the release of the Netflix documentary Queen of Chess about Judit Polgár, the autobiography of the most successful female chess player of all time will also be published. After a multi-round auction, Penguin Press from the US has purchased the global rights to the book from the Hungarian publisher Open Books, the company said in a statement.
The book will cover not only Judit Polgár's chess career, but also her decisions, motivations, and thoughts on education. Penguin Press editor-in-chief William Heyward expects significant international interest, saying that Judit Polgár's memoir is "not only the story of an exceptional sporting career, but also a life journey that can inspire and serve as an example worldwide."
Judit Polgár's previously published books have also enjoyed considerable international success. Her activity book series for children entitled Sakkpalota (Chess Palace), and her books presenting chess strategies have played a decisive role in the field of developing thinking and talent for many years, and their publishing rights have been sold in numerous countries .
According to Ádám Halmos, head of Open Books, working closely with the chess player allowed them to witness Judit Polgár's dedication, creative thinking, and work ethic firsthand, and he is confident that her new book will also be extremely inspiring.
Penguin Press is one of the most prestigious publishers in the United States, publishing globally influential non-fiction works by authors such as Yuval Noah Harari, Anne Applebaum, and Timothy Snyder.
