Orbán on US doctrine envisioning Europe's decline: This is the most important document of recent years
According to Viktor Orbán, the United States' view about Europe's decline is spot on, as is its view that "civilizational values, democracy, and the free market are under threat" on the continent. The Hungarian Prime Minister was commenting on the United States' new national security strategy, in which the Trump administration is envisaging Europe’s civilizational erasure.
According to the defense policy portal Defense One, there is an even longer version of the 33-page document, which is being circulated in a smaller circle and takes an even more hostile approach towards the European Union. Among other things, it suggests that Austria, Hungary, Italy and Poland are countries the United States should “work more with…with the goal of pulling them away from the [European Union].” In the document it is suggested that the US "should support parties, movements, and intellectual and cultural figures who seek sovereignty and preservation/restoration of traditional European ways of life…while remaining pro-American”.
All of this is perfectly in line with the views expressed by Viktor Orbán. The Hungarian Prime Minister stated on his Facebook page that the new US national security strategy is the most important and most interesting document of recent years. "It discusses Brussels in the same tone the Biden administration and Brussels have used to talk about us. What goes around......" he added.
According to Orbán, the Americans recognize that Europe has reached the end of a long dead-end street with regard to its economy, and a weak ally can neither defend itself nor be relied upon in international affairs. He believes that the Americans also see that "the European liberals have burned their bridges with Russia, which was a mistake." According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, US decision-makers believe that European-Russian relations need to be rebuilt at a strategic level.
“All in all, America's recognition of Europe's decline is spot on. This is the civilizational decline that we in Hungary have been fighting against for 15 years. And finally, we are not alone!”
– Viktor Orbán wrote in conclusion.
According to the document, the Trump administration envisages a grim future for Europe, which is not only threatened by insufficient military spending and economic stagnation, but also specifically by civilizational demise. Among the main problems facing Europe, they listed the activities of the European Union and other international organizations – something that Elon Musk has also taken issue with – having argued that the EU should be dissolved altogether – while welcoming the rise of "patriotic European parties." While EU leaders may not be enthusiastic about the new American strategy, Russia is certainly very pleased with it.
