Tisza's support drops 3 points among total population, while Fidesz's support grows by same amount, survey finds
The Tisza Party stands at 54 percent among the entire Hungarian population, and at 64 percent both among those eligible to vote and certain voters, according to the latest Medián poll published by HVG. Fidesz’s support is at 22 percent among the entire population, at 26 percent among those eligible to vote, and at 27 percent among certain voters. Medián measured support for the far-right Mi Hazánk at 7 percent among the entire population and at 8 percent in each of the other two voter categories.
Compared to Medián’s July poll, support for the Tisza Party has fallen by 3 percentage points—within the margin of error—while Fidesz’s support has risen by the same amount among the total population. The Tisza Party’s voter base did not shift in favor of smaller parties, nor did the proportion of unaffiliated voters increase; instead, Fidesz was able to capitalize on the ruling party’s loss of a few percentage points.
Compared to the July survey, the public mood has slightly deteriorated, but 60 percent of the Hungarian population still said that things are heading in the right direction. In July, this figure was 63 percent. 32 percent of the population currently believes that things in Hungary are heading in the wrong direction, compared to 29 percent in July.
Methodology
The Medián Public Opinion and Market Research Institute conducted the survey between September 14 and 18, 2026 via telephone interviews with a nationally representative sample of 1,000 people. Minor distortions in the sample were corrected using a mathematical method—known as weighting—based on data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), ensuring that the sample accurately reflects the composition of the country’s voting-age population by settlement type, gender, age, and educational attainment. The margin of error for the reported data is at the most ±3.1 percent of the total sample, depending on the distribution of responses.
