Consultations between Ukraine and Hungary officially underway
“Expert-level consultations between Hungary and Ukraine got underway online today. They were opened by Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka and myself” Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán announced on her Facebook page.
She continued her post by stating that the consultations are important steps in the rebuilding of bilateral relations and strengthening future cooperation. Anita Orbán also added that Hungary is committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“At the same time, our foremost task in our bilateral relations is ensuring the consistent protection of the rights of national minorities. The Hungarian community in Transcarpathia is not only an important part of the relationship between the two countries, but also serves as a bridge between our peoples. Real progress requires open, honest, and professional dialogue, built on clear legal guarantees. I believe that today’s meeting could mark the beginning of a new process,” she wrote.
A few days ago, Andrii Sybiha wrote on X that Ukraine is ready to immediately open a new, mutually beneficial chapter in Ukrainian-Hungarian relations. Prior to that, Sybiha had already consulted with Anita Orbán, the Tisza government's Foreign Minister about resolving the situation around the rights of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia.
According to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, they are ready to cooperate with the new Hungarian government on all bilateral issues, including the topic of ethnic minorities, “with the aim of restoring trust and good-neighborly relations between” the two countries.
