Orbán to skip EU summit in order to focus on transfer of power

It has previously been reported that Viktor Orbán will not be attending the upcoming informal EU summit, to be held between 23-24 April, but EU Affairs Minister János Bóka has now also revealed the reason for this. According to him, the Prime Minister will be focusing on the transition of powerduring this time.

Bóka emphasized that no binding decisions are made at informal meetings and no written conclusions are adopted, which is why Orbán will not appoint any other political-level representative on behalf of Hungary. He added that the Hungarian government’s position on the issues on the agenda is well-known and has not changed.

The main topics of the meeting include the Middle East crisis and its impact on Europe, as well as the next seven-year EU budget. Hungary’s position on these matters has already been conveyed to the cabinet of the President of the European Council. According to the minister, while Hungary will not be present at the meeting on a political level, it will be briefed later on the general direction of the meeting. (MTI)
