Ukraine no longer advises its citizens to avoid Hungary

“We are revoking our recommendation advising Ukrainian citizens not to travel to Hungary,” the Ukrainian Embassy in Budapest announced in a statement posted on Facebook on Monday morning. Following the results of Sunday’s election, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha decided to withdraw the recommendation, which had warned citizens against visiting Hungary. Ukraine issued the advisory in March, after Hungarian authorities detained seven Ukrainian bank employees and seized the assets they were transporting.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, in light of the current results, the anti-Ukrainian manipulation previously practiced by the Hungarian government is now a thing of the past. “The Hungarian people’s decision has demonstrated our neighbors’ desire to live in peace, security, and prosperity—in a truly independent Hungary that is part of a united and free Europe, instead of Moscow’s sphere of influence, a place of lawlessness and intimidation,” the statement reads. “The Hungarians have clearly said: enough is enough,” stated the Ukrainian foreign minister, who had already congratulated Péter Magyar on his victory in another post on the night of the election.
