Explosives found near gas pipeline American-made, head of Serbian Military Security Agency says

Đuro Jovanić, the head of the Serbian Military Security Agency (VBA), announced that the Serbian security services carried out an extremely successful operation, related to the explosives found near Oromhegyes, N1 Serbia has reported. According to Jovanić, they had been warning the commander-in-chief, President Aleksandar Vučić, and the state leadership for months that an incident similar to today’s could occur. “We were met with rejection and disagreement. The same was true when we presented the relevant indicators suggesting that stations and gas infrastructure could be at risk,” he stated.

He emphasized that today’s operation was preceded by thorough operative work in the field, as well as a good exchange of information with other agencies.

“We received information that a person from a migrant group who had received military training would attempt to carry out sabotage against the gas infrastructure,” he stated. He also said that they encountered false information on a daily basis regarding the timing and method of the crime, namely the sabotage attack.

The individual in question is being hunted down, and according to Jovanić, they will be apprehended. “The only question is how long it will take: three days or three months. But just as we have done in the past, we will carry out our task responsibly,” he said.

He also stated that the spread of disinformation continues, such as the claim that the Serbian army and its members, acting on behalf of a second or third party, will claim to have found Ukrainian explosives and accuse the Ukrainians of attempting to orchestrate this diversionary operation. “I must tell you that this is not true; this is not the case. What does it mean that someone manufactured the explosives? This does not mean that they are the same as the person who commissioned and carried out the attack,” he said.

According to N1, Jovanić stated that they found the explosives, which were in special, airtight packaging, along with detonators prepared and packaged for transport. “Furthermore, we found a detonating cord and the appropriate tools and equipment necessary to set up the explosive for a sabotage operation. The markings on the explosives clearly indicate that they were manufactured in the United States.”

Mladenka Manojlović, a prosecutor with the Subotica Chief Prosecutor’s Office, previously stated that the authorities are conducting an investigation on suspicion of the unauthorized manufacture, possession, and trafficking of weapons and explosives, as well as the crime of sabotage. During the investigation, two black backpacks were found alongside the road between the settlements of Gornji Breg and Vojvoda Zimonjić, near the gas pipeline running between Serbia and Hungary, containing approximately four kilograms of material suspected to be plastic explosives, as well as materials that can be used to make explosive devices.
