According to a survey conducted by Medián in early January, the Tisza Party gained two percentage points among the total population, writes HVG360. When asked which party they would vote for if parliamentary elections were held in the near future, 40 percent of the total population said they would vote for the Tisza, while 33 percent said they would vote for Fidesz–KDNP, 4 percent for Mi Hazánk (Our Homeland), 2 percent said they would vote for the Hungarian Two-Tailed Dog Party (MKKP), and the Democratic Coalition (DK) received only 1 percent, while 19 percent said they did not support any party.

Among those who have a party preference, 49 percent would vote for the Tisza Party, 41 percent for Fidesz, 5 percent for Mi Hazánk, 3 percent for Kétfarkú, and 1 percent for DK and other parties. The biggest difference can be seen among those who have a party preference and are likely to cast a vote: here, 51 percent would vote for the Tisza Party, 39 percent for Fidesz, 5 percent for Mi Hazánk, 3 percent for Kétfarkú, and 1 percent for DK and other parties.

Compared to the latest Medián survey conducted in November, the Tisza Party has gained 1 percentage point among this group, while Fidesz has lost one. Respondents were also asked who they thought would win the election. Thirty-nine percent expected it to be the Tisza Party, while 44 percent said it would be Fidesz–KDNP, 16 percent did not answer, and 1 percent said something else.

The results of IDEA institute’s survey were also published on Wednesday: their poll found that Tisza is ahead of Fidesz by 10 percentage points among those certain to vote, while DK was measured at 5 percent.

The date for Hungary's next parliamentary elections was officially set by President Tamás Sulyok earlier this week for 12 April. The campaign will run for fifty days prior to the election, beginning on 21 February.

The survey was conducted between January 7 and 13 by the Medián Public Opinion and Market Research Institute. A total of 1,000 people were interviewed by telephone, and the sample is nationally representative. Minor distortions in the sample were corrected using weighting based on data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH). The margin of error for the published data is a maximum of ±3.5 percent, depending on the distribution of responses in the total sample.
