"This morning I had an hour-long telephone conversation with President Putin. These are the most dangerous weeks of the war. We are using all diplomatic means at our disposal to push for a ceasefire and peace", Orbán posted on Facebook. Before the post was published, 444 spotted a statement on the Kremlin's website about the conversation, in which the Russian presidential office reported that Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orbán "discussed a number of current issues related to bilateral trade and economic cooperation, which is progressively developing overall".

The Hungarian Prime Minister was in the United States earlier this week at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, and said on Tuesday that due to strict US laws, Donald Trump was not in a position to discuss the issue of a ceasefire at this time. Orbán still hopes that after he takes office on 20 January, "we will see the beneficial effects of this".

In a video shared on his Facebook page previously, the Prime Minister briefly spoke about his visit to Florida on Monday. He said that for now, he and Trump held one meeting in which they congratulated each other. "Mostly I congratulated him," Orbán noted, adding that formal talks could only begin after Trump takes office again. "If two individuals, two men, sit down to talk to each other nowadays, whether in Europe or in America, they can hardly avoid talking about war and peace," he said.
