According to the latest opinion poll conducted by Medián between 26 and 29 April in Hungary, Péter Magyar's party, the Tisza Party, stands at 24 percent among voters who are likely to cast their ballots in the upcoming EP elections. This places the recently formed party far ahead of the other opposition parties, making it the strongest opposition party in Hungary, HVG360 reports based on the analysis conducted for them in April.
According to the survey, Fidesz enjoys 46 percent support, Demokratikus Koalíció (DK) has 9 percent, Magyar Kétfarkú Kutyapárt (MKKP) 6 percent and Momentum 5 percent among "certain" voters. Medián's survey shows that if the elections were held this Sunday, these are the five parties that would get into the European Parliament from Hungary. The far-right Mi Hazánk, which is on 4 percent, Mindenki Magyarországa Mozgalom which is on 2 percent and Jobbik and LMP which are on 1 percent respectively, would not get in.
Magyar is more popular than Deutsch
According to Medián's results, Péter Magyar is the most popular Hungarian politician running in the EP elections, polling at 43 percent – this is the percentage of those who would like to see him in an important political role. Magyar is 10 percentage points ahead of Tamás Deutsch, the EP list leader of Fidesz, who is on 33 percent, followed by Klára Dobrev (DK), Marietta Le (MKKP) and Anna Donáth (Momentum). According to the poll, Péter Márki-Zay is also ahead of Klára Dobrev (25 percent) with 29 percent of the votes, while Momentum's Anna Donáth has 24 percent.
Iránytű Institute's recent poll also ranked Magyar's recently established party as the strongest opposition party, and the polls conducted by IDEA Institute showed that it's been years since Fidesz-KDNP's support was as low as at the beginning of April. A survey done by Závecz Research in early April showed that Magyar's party is mostly drawing voters from among the undecideds, as well as voters of MKKP and Momentum.
