Why do we buy so much bottled water, if tap water is practically free?

Hungarians spend hundreds of billions of forints a year on bottled water, while the same water is available from the tap, almost for free. But is it really the same? What is the difference between tap water and mineral water, and what magic has marketing used to persuade people to choose the latter at hundreds of times the price?
