Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, who is in Washington, had a telephone conversation on his own initiative on Wednesday evening with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who is currently on a visit to Ghana, Foreign Affairs spokesman Máté Paczolay told Hungarian Press Agency MTI.

The spokesman said that Andriy Yermak informed Szijjártó that the Ukrainian parliament is preparing to adopt several important pieces of legislation. The Hungarian Foreign Minister thanked him for the information and took note of it.

They agreed on the need to improve relations between Hungary and Ukraine and that the best way to do this is through direct personal dialogue. Therefore, it was agreed that Szijjártó and Andriy Yermak would meet in person, the spokesman said.

During the talks, Andriy Yermak proposed a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Szijjártó responded that the Hungarian side is certainly open to a meeting of this kind,

but it only makes sense if there is a chance that the meeting will have a positive outcome.

This in turn requires thorough preparation and preliminary discussions, the spokesman said.
