Commissioner for refugees fleeing to Hungary from Russian-Ukrainian war appointed

Norbert Pál has been appointed Government Commissioner for individuals fleeing the Russian-Ukrainian war to Hungary, the Hungarian Gazette announced on 15 May.

Pál, whose mandate will run for two years, will be responsible for assisting in the placement of refugees from Ukraine, contributing to the preparation of government decisions concerning refugees, cooperating with the minister responsible for the organisation of public administration in the performance of official tasks concerning refugees, and making recommendations to the government on legislative and other tasks requiring decisions concerning the employment, education, social and housing issues of refugees.

In addition, the Government Commissioner is responsible for providing information to refugees and cooperating with the ministries responsible for related tasks, the National Directorate General for Aliens Policing, Hungarian and international humanitarian aid organisations, as well as organisations involved in providing temporary employment and mediation services.
