At the end of August 2021, the whole world watched as US troops left and all of Afghanistan, including the capital, Kabul was taken over by the Taliban. All foreigners left and thousands of locals frantically tried to get on flights that would take them to safety.
The Taliban had ruled Afghanistan before, and based on memories of that time, nobody expected much good. A few months later, our colleague travelled to Afghanistan to see for himself what life in Afghanistan looks like under these changed circumstances.
